I need a sturdy shoe for step classes and other fitness activities. Many shoes slip on my narrow heel, but this one fits well. I liked my first pair so much I bought another pair in a different color.

I have a collapsed arch so I wear orthodics to run (i was prescribed them while training for a marathon, but I was told to wear them whenever possible..ie wear with any shoes they fit in). These shoes go nicely with my inserts, as they are "stability", which by new balance standards is more support than the normal sneaker, and not as hard in terms of arch support as their motion control shoe. I've tried their motion control shoes, and the arch support is too much to even bother using my insoles, but even without the insoles the support is too strong. Bottom line, for each person the level of arch support depends on how you feel and what your foot needs.
Overall, I feel this is a great shoe. The heel doesn't slip and the toe box is also a comfortable width. They are physically light, so I don't feel weighted down when I run. I use them for running and also other gym activities - I take a lot of step classes, and they are comfortable the whole way through.
As for sizing - someone once told me to order a full size up than your street shoes for distance running. As a novice runner I listened, which worked fine for a little while. On a hunch I ordered these shoes only a HALF size larger than my normal street shoe, and I find this to be a much better fit. I would recommend this sizing to anyone buying this sneaker, just so you have the extra room in your toe area.
The shoe could be improved with something so minimal - New Balance has these bubble laces that keep your laces in their place. Although I haven't had a problem with these laces yet, inevitably during a long run the laces shift. I can only forsee this happening more frequently with these regular old-fashioned laces. Simple fix would be to chanage to the bubble laces for this running shoe.
Overall, bravo. I've spent over $100 on good, supportive running shoes...and this one depending on the color you can buy for closer to $50. I'm happy with the shoe and at this price I'm thinking of buying another pair already.
